PM Burnham Brings Forward Ban on ‘Subscription Traps’ to January 2027
Andy Burnham has accelerated a package of consumer protection measures, bringing the ban on “subscription traps” forward by three months to January 2027. The rules will force businesses to provide clearer up-front information, regular reminders, and easier cancellation. Burnham is also adding a crackdown on shops using fake “was” prices and misleading RRPs to advertise supposed discounts. The government estimates the changes will save consumers £400m a year.
